Late Afternoon on a Woodland Trail

I walk in the hushed cathedral of the trees,
Sunlight slants, a chalice, through the naked boughs,
Snow, a fresh-minted cloth, upon the forest floor,
Where shadows gather, long and contemplative now.

The zephyr conveys secrets through the frosted limbs,
Each rustle, a benediction in the frozen air,
No birdsong pierces the hush, save for a lone crow's call,
An echoing appeal, suspended in the still, clear prayer.

A carpet of white, untouched and pure, beneath my feet,
Each step, a pilgrimage on this holy ground,
The russet leaves, like embers, cling to memories,
Of verdant summers, now in slumber, cold and profound.

My soul, a leaf, adrift on currents of the breeze,
Seeks solace in the stark embrace of winter's hold,
No burden of the world can touch this sacred space,
Only the peace of God, in stories yet to behold.

And as the sun dips low, painting the snow with gold,
I turn to depart, yet carry with me, still,
The hush of the wood, the secrets whispered, and the cold,
A winter's grace, a benediction on the hill.
