The Sole Witness

Sole Witness 01 20240125 P1000028_displaySole Witness 01 20240125 P1000028_displayWhile waiting to pick up my sons from high school, an athletic shoe was seen on a rock on the ground of the town offices near the school.

Where asphalt meets ambition's court,
By civic halls where laws take root,
A lone shoe rests, rain-soaked and worn,
A silent tale upon a stone.

Once laced to dreams of soaring flight,
It danced with hope in cloudless light,
Now cast aside, adrift, forlorn,
A sole survivor of the storm.

Was it a fumble, swift and cruel?
Or weary steps that played their fool?
No answers rise from cobbled ground,
Only the rain's relentless sound.

But mark this well, ye passersby,
This shadowed scene beneath the sky:
Though triumphs fade and fortunes fall,
The path, though slick, awaits us all.

For even soles, though cast away,
May find new purpose, rise one day,
With mended seams and spirits strong,
To write their verse in life's long song.

So, tread with care, with measured stride,
For every step leaves naught to hide,
And on life's court, where shadows creep,
One fallen shoe may hold the key.

Let not your journey end in vain,
Rise up, and dance in sunlit rain,
For though soles may slip, and spirits tire,
The will to walk can set hearts afire.

Remember then, by stone and shoe,
The path unfolds, for me and you,
And though we stumble, hearts may mend,
And find new purpose, till the very end.
